10 OF MY FAVE MOVIES TO GET YOU IN THE AUTUMN MOOD

It's pumpkin spice season. So get cozy with a cup of your favourite hot beverage & fluffy blankets because I've got a list of movies for you to get you in the mood for autumn, when you don't want to read a book or watch the whole of the Gilmore Girls for the 20th time.

Most movies around this time of year include witches, Halloween and cozy romances. Which is what you will find here. Nothing excites me more than hearing a woman chant a spell or autumn leaves in the background of a romantic scene between two people who met and fall in love in the weirdest ways.

Light that apple cinnamon candle. Dim those lights. Get those cozy slipper socks on and under that blanket on the sofa and binge watch these incredible films.

Warning: This post contains quite a few gifs.

Practical Magic

One of my all time favourite books and movies. a cult classic. Practical Magic follows Sally and Gillian, sisters who are also witches. Follow the drama that is their love life with a curse. Be smittened by the small town they live in and bask in the fact they will always have a prettier house. so get your midnight margaritas and put your limes in your coconuts, ladies because this one will most certainly get you in a fall mood. They just don't make movies like these anymore.

Sweet November

Starring everyone's world wide treasure Keanu Reeves and Charlize Theron in such a beautiful and sad romantic drama. Keanu plays Nelson, hot shot advertising guy, Charlize plays Sara, a little kooky gal who chooses Nelson to be her November which includes a one month trial relationship after which they go their separate ways. That doesn't sound absolutely amazing but I suck at describing but if you watch the film, it gives you fall vibes, romantic feelings and be sure to get some tissues at the ready. Oh and it also has Jason Issacs and Michael Rosenbaum playing as cross dressers Cherry and Brandy and nailing it and if that doesn't peak your interest, maybes Keanu singing Time after Time will. Unfortunalty the critics hated it when it first came out. But for me, I love watching this in Autumn.

Halloweentown

Halloween is cool. Since I was a child, I watched Halloweentown and its sequels (not you number 3) every year until I couldn't get it anywhere. I never had it on dvd or video. But Disney+ has all the Halloweentown's and I will be watching these films every year again until I can't no more. Not only does it get me in the autumn mood but also the halloween mood too.

Knives Out

I absolutely adore this film and have seen it a few times. Starring the stunningly beautiful Ana De Armas and Chris Evans with a bunch of insanely talented actors including Daniel Craig and Jamie Lee Curtis, Knives Out is a wonderfully done, whodunit murder mystery. Ana stars as Marta (who I thought was just a brilliant character), who believed that she had given her patient an overdose of pain medication and then was instructed to give an false alibi but she vomits when ever she tells a lie and when questioned tells accurate but incomplete events to the detective who is played by Daniel Craig, his name is Benoit Blanc, the best private detective on the case to solve the case of author Harlan Thrombey's death. It's a bit of Sherlock with a dash of Agatha Christie.
The way this is played out is just beautiful and if you haven't seen it, you'll be playing detective till the end too. The sequel didn't live up to this standards in my eyes but it was still fun to watch.

The Craft

I can't get through an autumn/spooky season without watching The Craft. This movie is the opposite end of Practical Magic and I say bring back 90's witchy films. We won't talk about the absolute crap that was The Craft Legacy. Did you know that Fairzua Balk who plays Nancy, actually opened her own wicca shop? She eventually sold it but I thought that was pretty cool of her. Any way The Craft is about a new girl who moves to town and has magical powers, she attracts the attention of the local coven, who want her to be the fourth witch for their powers to manifest more. Eventually Nancy gets a little power hungry and things take a turn. It's got witches, sisterhood, skeet ulrich, goth vibes and Robin Turneys awful wig. ahahaha.

Casper

Can I Keep You? oml Casper, you are pulling on my heart. I would have loved a little Casper friend when I was a kid and I just love everything about this movie. It's got spooky vibes, a cute ghost, a daughter/dad dynamic, a sad background story and a dead good soundtrack. It will tug a tear out of your eyes near the end. Basically Kat and her Dad, who is searching for his dead wife's ghost, move into a spooky new house and find it occupied by Casper and his not so friendly ghosts. Kat becomes friends with Casper and throws herself a halloween party, what could go wrong? I even loved Casper meets Wendy and now I need to re-watch that film.

You've Got Mail

If you ever want to see outdated tech then this one is for you but I just love the setting of this. Now the movie does go through different seasons in New York but the more prominate season is Autumn. I just adore the little bookshop, the vibes, the back and forth IM-ing. It's a feel good romantic cozy comedy and I love getting cozy on the sofa with a cup of tea and watching. Meg Ryan is Kathleen, an independent bookshop owner who loves to have chats on her AOL email account with "NY152" the screen name of Joe who is played by Tom Hanks. Joe owns a chain store of books and is set to open up a new Fox book store across the street from Kathleen's small shop. She doesn't realize this and he eventually finds out who she is when they agree to meet. It's the classic enemies to lovers trope in the second half of the film and it's worth a watch.

Coraline

She's a peach, she's a doll, shes a pal of miiiiine. An 11 year old moves into a new house and feels bored and neglected by her parents she finds adventure in another world behind a bricked up passageway but this other world has deadly secrets.
This stop motion animation is creepy and so so good. Based on the Neil Gaiman's novel of the same name (I've read it btw and its very good) It's autumnal, spooky and captivating.

Penelope

I find this film so underrated and it's also the second Christina Ricci movie in this list. Starring James McAvoy as Max and Christina Ricci as the movies character, Penelope. The movie focuses on Penelope and her unusual facial feature. She was born with a nose of a pig due to a curse that was put on her family. Her family go to great lengths to keep this out of the public but they think that true love will break the curse once and for all. The family get multiple men to meet Penelope to see if one will marry her in hopes of true love but it doesn't go according to plan and most men run from her. Max is hired by a disgruntled journalist but after getting to know Penelope through many meetings, they start to fall for each other. I won't say any more if you haven't seen it but this movie is so cute and lovely. The whole film has a beautiful meaning and the setting is quite whimsical and I'm not to sure how to describe it. But I adore this film and now I need a rewatch.

Twilight Series

Ok so here me out. The Twilight Series is just a big block of cheesiness BUT its a guilty pleasure for many. Now if you can get over the screams of Bella in New Moon, then that film will put you in the autumn mood. If anything, do it for Charlie. That man is worth watching all of Twilight. All the films have rainy days, they have vampires, music that feels autumnal. Even if you just have it on in the background while you hoover, it gives that fall vibe. Just bask in the fact that you know that Robert Pattinson just hates these films. The commentary tracks on the dvds are top tier. If you haven't seen twilight, basically Bella Swan moves to forks, Washington and meets Edward and finds out he's a vampire and they get together and have to play baseball and run away from bad vampires. Also that scene where Bella and Edward stand on the bloody wedding guests goes hard.

Have you watched any of these films? What film gets you in an autumn mood?
