The Camera Shop | Food & Coffee

The Camera Shop in Newcastle Upon Tyne is a unique blend of history and modern charm. Originally a 1907 camera shop, it has been transformed into a cozy café offering breakfast, coffee, and lunch. Established in 2008, this independent gem is a favorite among locals and visitors alike, which now includes me.

Their menu features delicious and evolving options, including breakfast items like a tasty sausage sandwich with harissa roasted tomato and a Monte Cristo eggy-bread sandwich. For lunch, they offer choices like the Halloumi Super Box, Tuna & Kimchi Toastie, and a delicious Falafel Wrap with Moroccan carrot salad.

The café is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 2 PM, providing the perfect spot to grab a bite and unwind in the heart of Newcastle.

During my visit to The Camera Shop in Newcastle, I decided to try something light and refreshing, so I opted for the Chicken Salad Box from their menu. It was a fantastic choice! The salad was fresh and vibrant, filled with crisp greens, perfectly cooked chicken, and a delightful mix of ingredients that balanced both flavor and texture. It was accompanied by a tangy dressing that added just the right amount of zing, making each bite a satisfying and flavorful experience.

To complement the meal, I paired it with an Iced Latte – the perfect drink for a crisp day. The coffee was smooth, rich, and had just the right level of sweetness, served over ice to make it incredibly refreshing. The balance of espresso and milk was spot-on, making it a lovely, chilled pick-me-up.

The combination of the light, healthy salad and the cool, creamy iced latte was perfect, and it really highlighted how well The Camera Shop does simple yet delicious food and drinks. The staff were lovely and whether you're grabbing a quick lunch or settling in for a longer break, it’s an ideal spot for both tasty food and great coffee.

You can find The Camera Shop at 27 Collingwood St, NE1 1JE
