Experience Newcastle Christmas Market 2025: A Winter Wonderland in the City

Every year Newcastle transforms into a winter wonderland with its Christmas Market, bringing festive cheer to locals and visitors alike. From food and drinks to unique gifts and trinkets, the markets spread across several key locations in the city, including Old Eldon Square, Grey’s Monument, Grainger Street, and Grey Street.

The 2025 market is open from 15th November until 23rd December, welcoming shoppers from 10am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 5pm on Sundays.

I make a point to come every year to see what the stalls have to offer and enjoy the festive atmosphere. One highlight I am looking forward to is stopping at the Crumbling Pot to enjoy a warm mixed berry and custard pot to cozy up on this chilly December day.

Explore the Stalls: Food, Gifts, and Festive Treats

The Newcastle Christmas Market offers a fantastic range of stalls perfect for gift shopping and festive treats. At Old Eldon Square, you can explore family friendly activities and enjoy freshly made dipping donuts with a variety of Christmas themed toppings. Grey’s Monument features local producers like Firebrick Brewery with festive gift boxes and Matthews Cheese offering the region’s finest cheeses and chutneys. Grainger Street showcases handmade jewellery, bespoke wooden watches, and delicious preserves from The Cherry Tree. On Grey Street you can enjoy Neapolitan style pizza from Great North Pizza Co or relax at Moosenwirt, Newcastle’s legendary Alpine pop-up bar with fire pits and seasonal drinks.

The markets are not just about shopping. There are plenty of activities for families and friends to enjoy together. You can join festive storytelling with Santa and his elves, participate in interactive stage shows with Rockin’ Reindeer, and enjoy live music and performances across the city. These experiences create a joyful atmosphere perfect for capturing memorable holiday photos.

Why Newcastle Christmas Market is a Must Visit

The Newcastle Christmas Market is an annual tradition that captures the magic of the holiday season. With its festive lights, variety of stalls, and family friendly entertainment, it offers something for everyone. Each year I look forward to wandering the markets, sampling seasonal treats, and enjoying the joyful atmosphere.

What I got up to at the market

Every year, I grab my friend and off we go to the market, we do a lap around the market, checking out all the stalls before deciding whether or not to grab some delicious hot food. Usually we have a hot chocolate in hand as we rock around the place.

Despite the weather, we had a wonder around the stalls on Greys Monument before heading down to the Village at old eldon square. I've eaten festive loaded fries at parm-o-rama, which I did a review on this here and festive berry & apple crumble from Crumbling as well as sipped on biscoff hot chocolate as I took in the festive sites.

We even found a Santa Bus curtesty of Go North East Buses, which if you walked inside, you'd find Santa, giving out little gifts for any children that may visit. It was very cute and a nice alterative to the not so free Santa Stories.
The market livens up when the sun sets and all the lights are turned on and the city is bustling with people finding christmas gifts and drinking mulled wine. It's a lovely tradition I have and one that will stick to for many years.

Do you go to Christmas Markets and if so which one is your favourite?
