Fenwick Christmas Window 2025 Newcastle: A Dickens’ Classic Come to Life

What is the Fenwick Christmas Window?

Every year, Fenwick transforms its iconic storefront on Northumberland Street into a festive spectacle. A much loved Newcastle tradition that draws visitors from across the UK.

For 2025, the theme is A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens reimagined by celebrated author and illustrator Chris Riddell.

This brings Dickens’ timeless story to life through a series of detailed, immersive windows that guide you from Scrooge’s miserly beginnings to his heartwarming redemption.

What to Expect: Scenes, Artistry & Storytelling

  • The display unfolds across seven windows, each depicting a key moment in “A Christmas Carol” from Scrooge’s gloomy office to the Cratchit family’s cosy Christmas morning.

  • Expect intricate 3D display, vintage props, handcrafted costumes, and painstaking detail, all transforming illustrated scenes into a miniature theatrical experience.

  • The event is more than visuals: there’s a bespoke musical score, produced in collaboration with Royal Northern Sinfonia, which adds a magical, atmospheric soundtrack to the display.

  • Visit early in the season: Earlier visits tend to avoid the crowds (especially around weekends closer to Christmas).

  • Take your time: Move slowly from window to window to catch all the details and maybe read up a little on the Dickens story to spot scenes you recognise.

My Thoughts

I finally made it to see the Fenwick Christmas Window this year and it was everything I hoped it would be. The display has been out for a little while, but this was my first visit and wow, it really is magical. The ghosts were my favourite window scenes. The attention to detail is incredible. Every little moving piece, the twinkling lights, the colours, it really feels like the story is unfolding right in front of you. Honestly, no video or photo can do it justice. You really need to see it in person to get the full magic.
