Listening to Slayers : A Buffyverse Story

I'M SO EXCITED THAT THIS HAS FINALLY COME OUT. Ever since it was announced that Amber Benson and Christopher Golden would be bringing a Buffy-Verse story to life, I've been filled with joy that my favourite show has a little bit of a revival addition in the form of an acted audiobook.

Bringing back Buffy characters such as Spike (James Marsters), Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter), Tara (Amber Benson), Anya (Emma Caulfield), Giles  (Anthony Stewart Head), Drusilla (Juliet Landau) and new comer Indira (Laya Deleon Hayes)

Slayers follows Spike, 10 years after the events of the Buffy Finale, where Buffy and the gang defeated the army of Uber Vamps by turning every potential into a slayer and basically made Sunnydale into a crater, as he returns to his evil ways and using the cover, secretly feeds slayers and watchers information. After meeting new baby slayer Indira, Spike encounters an alternate version of Cordelia Chase who asks for his help in defeating Drusilla in her world. HOW EXCITING.

Hearing Marsters slip back in Spike was sending me back to 2003. I found his voice a little rusty and more on the heavy side of cockney dialect. Amber Benson did not sound like Tara at all and it threw me off. Juliet slipped into Drusilla so gracefully. And Charisma was just Cordelia. A tad spoilery but the alternative universe of Tara and Drusilla's relationship was weird. This version of the world's Tara is evil but she is constantly fighting her good side and is in a relationship with Drusilla. It kinda gave me the ick having to hear the kissing noises.

A part of me wished this was a live action but the actors are so much older than their counterparts these days that an animation would be so much better. Since its hard to visualize a fight scene, the grunting was a bit frustrating but overall easy to follow.

Slayers manages to bring justice to not only Cordelia but Charisma Carpenter and I think she did amazing. It makes me kinda wish that Cordelia had been activated as a Slayer in Season 5 of Angel if they hadn't killed her off. (Side eyeing you Whedon) It would have been an amazing story line to find out she was actually a potential but she was stuck in that awful coma. (Never forgiving Whedon for that, we lost out on a Cordy/Angel relationship, I CRIED in the episode You're Welcome. UGLY CRIED)  I mean she did stake that vampire in Buffy on Graduation Day without any help.

Now if we could get a Faith and Angel acted audiobook that would be amazing.

Rating this 4/5 stars.
