Everyone meet Millie. Our newest member of the family. This post is long over due!
After seeing a post in a Facebook group asking for urgent fosters to adopt a six year old Jack Russell terrier, I jumped at the chance to adopt her. She had been left on the group site since March with one other interest which had fallen through and her owner was so sad that no body wanted his little girl, so I made sure to change that.
She needed a new home due to stress with a second dog, children and various other stresses and after a meet up to get to know her and her situation, we fell in love with her.
A few days after the meet, she was ready to be picked up. The charity Happier Days for Strays, which is the group I’m a part of, take an adoption fee which covers vet visits to get neutered, vaccinations, worm and flea treatments and anything else the dog requires. They have a charity shop in Sunderland which uses all the proceeds from sales to help all the animals in need of new homes. Once I picked her up from the shop, I was kindly taken along to get Millie chipped at the local vet. She was very stressed out while in the car journey but once she got out and into the vets, she was such a star and even got a treat. Another little stressful journey back to her new home and everything was good.
As soon as she got in the house, she strutted around like she owned the place, getting used the the layout and the new smells. It had been such a tiring day that she had a snooze on the sofa and wasn’t fussed with the new toys I had gotten her the previous day.
She really is such a lovely dog, every chance she gets she flops her belly out for a good belly rub and lots of cuddles. I’ve been given so many kisses and licks on the hand. She’s become my little shadow since being here.
Flash forward four months later and she's a right cheeky sod. Loves the dreads of my cups of tea, still flings herself at us for belly rubs and she now has her favourite toys. She has a soft squeaker toy called Barney who is a monkey and he was the best £2.99 from Lidl I've ever spent on a dog. He's absolutely wrecked these days so she jumps between a dino toy and various rope toys when she isn't dragging poor Barney around. We have now had to get a bigger basket for all her toys. It's getting out of hand.
She also loves to watch TV & TikTok videos with us. Millie also has a game on my ipad that she loves to play. I had to get a screen protector just for her. But shes too cute.
She still needs work on her commands such as Sit and Stay. And she needs to work on her outside anxiety as she is a bit reactive outside, barking at people and other dogs in the area.
Enjoy some photos of Millie.
